Todd White, the internationally renowned Hollywood artist, has a
story to tell. His story is told in 'The Art of White', a 176 page
book recounting his rise to success from boy to man.
Floyd were given the job of bringing this compelling story of
maternal admiration, endeavour and plain old cheek to life in
Todd's first book publication.
First came the concept. Todd's method is one of people watching,
inspiration finding. He can often be seen, sitting in coffee shops,
bars or restaurants drawing influence from the world, and more
importantly the people, around him. He sketches and sketches and
sketches, pulling the subjects soul onto the page. This was Floyd's
hook.
The book itself employed a mixture of paper stocks to enable
Floyd to bring the concept to life. Taking Todd's original sketches
as well as scans of all his finished pieces from the last 10 years,
we set about creating Todd's sketch book.
All sketches and handwritten story sections were printed on
rough, uncoated paper stock giving the tactile feel of sketch pad
cartridge paper. These pages were further embellished using liquid
ink to smudge across the original sketches. All finished
pieces were printed onto pristine, silk-coated paper stock giving
them the sheen of a quality finished article.
Combining these 2 stock types throughout the publication,
coupled with a raw canvas cover screen printed with the now
instantly recognisable 'White' signature made the book a tactile
read as well as an inspiring one.
