One sunny morning in July 1968, a young
photographer woke on the floor of a friends house in London. That
photographer was Tom Murray. His friend said he was doing a
photoshoot for a band that day and would Tom like to bring his
camera and join him? As he had nothing else planned he said he
would.
After a short drive they pulled up at a large white house and on
entering through some large french windows they
discovered Paul McCartney playing a piano.
The band Tom's friend was shooting that day was The
Beatles.
What followed has gone down in popular
folklore. 'The Mad Day Out' was a full day
chasing from location to location around London in an Austin Mini,
desparately trying to avoid screaming fans.
Tom Murray was there and took his own private shots of The
Beatles which then stayed locked away for 40 years. Now they're
available as limited edition prints and Floyd were selected to
produce the art brochure for the collection.
We developed the concept of the brochure being contained within
an album cover, complete with die-cut hole to
the front as an homage to The Beatles and created a 'flower-power'
inspired brand logo for the collection which went across all POS,
PR and of course the website.
A pleasure to produce.
